I wanted to pull off videos from my dashcam's microSD card, and download it to any device (especially iPhone) that I happened to have on me.

It works great for that! I plug in the SD card first, then the lightening port to the iPhone, with the Files app open. The card will appear in the 'Browse' section of the iPhone, and I copy either to a phone itself or a fileserver I run at home. No longer need the MacBook Pro with the built in slots to do so.

Not easy to use, can damage your SD cards

iPhone plug is too short and wouldn't work with OtterBox defender case (you'll need an extension wire, or remove the case). The micro SD card socket has a mechanical fault. If the card is not inserted carefully it will go all the way in and it would be very difficult to extract it. One micro SD card that I inserted was damaged by the adapter and was rendered unusable. The adapter became hot and I was certain that the adapter was damaged, but "only" the card was damaged. The adapter should be inserted into iPhone socket in a specific side. If you plug it in and iPhone doesn't recognize it, pull it out turn it 180 degrees and reinsert it. This is just a nuisance but still it shows lack of attention to details.

This has been wonderful to have so many options when downloading photos from my DSLR camera. The versatility has been amazing, and it works as advertised.

My only complaint is that the metal attachments are cheaply made and already bent with being plugged in without any stress. The protection caps do help when not in use, but I hope it doesn't snap or bend off the USB insert.
