I was looking for a cheap small weather meter. This weather meter cost more than some of the ones I found online, but I thought I would give it a try. Out of the box I was liking it already. The small size makes it very easy to slip in a pocket for transport. The controls were easy enough to figure out and the backlight screen is an added bonus. I also noticed it will tell wind speed no matter which way you hold it. Some meters only work in one direction. It also gives readings in several formats. It records max temp and wind speed for you which is another feature that I like. So far I have not had any problems with mine and think it is worth the money.

This is perfect for me. I have a north facing deck with an awning on it and this allows me to be sure it isn't too windy for the awning to be out. It is not for someone who wants a VERY STURDY windspeed monitor. It definitely does a good job and is easy to use and read. I love trying to "guess" the wind speed and then see if I am accurate. I would recommend this.

Awesome little wind-meter! I bought this for my dad to have on his sail boat. He loves playing around with it for some reason! Honestly, sometimes he will call me on the weekends, and the first thing he'll say is "guess what the wind speed is right now". He's been using it for two years now and it still works great. A very small thing that is useful with this meter, which I would have never considered important, is that it has a wrist strap on it. Not only is it nice because you don't risk the meter falling into the water, but it is also great for hanging on a hook. If it didn't hang, he would have to securely store it away down inside the boat while he was sailing because if it's not secured, when the boat keels, stuff would just fly across the boat (we've had numerous things broken because of this). Since he can hang the meter on a hook, it's always available to grab without having to go digging with all of the other secured items.

For the price I am quite satisfied with this product, living on the bay on occasion we receive winds that are quite strong, and I also sail an want a good gestimate of the wind speed. This hand held device has clocked winds gusting to over 16mph, and gave a temperature of 55.2 degrees before I got too cold and walked back to the house. These winds were inline with what was reported on the weather channel for our area. You have to ensure of course that you have the device pointed in the right direction and give it a minute of so if you want the average or the highest gust as the wind varies. It takes time for any thermometer to take a temperature which is reasonable - a few minutes with the fingers on the edges of the meter so the warmth of your hand does not interfere. I like the night light too, works well. Wind Chill only operates below 50 degrees and I do not expect to be standing out in hurricane force winds because of the danger. Of course you can pay a couple hundred for something to mount on your roof or your mast that may be more accurate but for a hand held budget instrument I am satisfied, no problems with it.

This feels like a well-constructed device. It functions well and seems to be accurate. Received it super fast. It's small, light, and fits easily in my pocket during PPG flights. I usually forget it's even there and walk around with it the rest of the day. Only problem I've noticed is, when it arrived and I pulled it out of the box, the little magnet that comes on it had come off and was stuck to the outside of the little fan support vanes. I put it back in the center where it looked like it should go, but it promptly fell out and disappeared forever. I don't know what sort of effect that might have on the readings as it's supposed to correct for Earth's H field, but if it weren't for that, I would have rated it higher. The screen is a little difficult to read from an angle (have to be looking very dead-on), but that's not much of an issue. Even with the magnet issue, I'd still recommend it for the price.

UPDATE (Apr2013): This little guy went for an unintentional and fairly lengthy swim in a lake Memorial Day last year. After drying disassembled for a couple days, I was happy to see it still works perfectly.

Wasn't sure how great this would be at such a low price point, as other wind meters are much more. I have to say though that I have been very happy with it. The biggest thing I don't like is it seems to take the thermometer a long time to get to whatever the current temperature is and it seems to be a bit off.

Works great for measuring the intensity and direction of wind. It's much more accurate then watching foliage move in the wind or any other organic or feels like method. I use it for target shooting and you can check the wind actual velocity perpendicular to the path of the arrow, which is really the most critical force. It could be built a little more rugged, considering it is for outdoor use. I haven't broken mine yet, but I handle and cary it carefully.

Purchased to confirm wind strength while sailing and at anchor but I am sure I will use it other ways too. It will help confirm and recalibrate what my guesstimates of wind from the waves. Controls are easy - yiou have to read the manual to know what exact mode you're in by the small symbols (could be bigger). The reading is big and easy to read an the backlight is good. I like the soft slightly grippy feel of the case. Comes with no case so will find an old case from reading glasses to keep it safe in the drawer/pocket. Nothing tells you where to connect the lanyard so you have to look closely to see the attach point on bottom corner (perhaps if attached in the grooves next to the fan - which would be tempting - it might intefere with the accuracy/function).
